Before entering the Dominicans, Fr. Bill received a B.S. in chemistry at Mount Saint Mary's University in Emmitsburg, MD. Upon graduation, he worked two years in the field of technology-transfer and was active in youth ministry in Northern Virginia where he met the Dominicans. In August of 1988, Fr. Bill entered the novitiate of the Dominican Order in Cincinnati, OH, and professed Solemn Vows four years later. He was ordained to the priesthood May 20, 1994 by Archbishop Sean O'Malley, OFM Cap. Originally from Hagerstown, MD, Father Bill is the second son and youngest of Ann and Jack Garrott's eight children. He has 24 nieces and nephews and three grand-nieces. Father Bill spent over seven years serving as associate pastor in various Dominican parishes in Ohio where he gained experience with RCIA, adult education, confirmation retreats, Bible studies, directing altar servers, lectors, and pro-life marches. In 1999 Father Bill received an M.A in Spirituality from the University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, better known as the Angelicum. In June of 2002 he was appointed the Director of Vocations for the Eastern Province of Dominican Friars and has assisted dozens of men to enter the Dominican novitiate in that time. Fr. Bill plays the piano, organ and guitar, composes music and has preached over 30 musically-based parish missions through out the United States. In December 2003, he released his first CD of 8 original compositions and 6 compositions of other artists called "Preacher of Grace"; which is a title which tradition ascribes to St. Dominic.
